Autumnal Apples

Fall is here! And do you know how I know?

I know it’s fall because the grocery store finally got its shipment of Honeycrisp apples and powdered apple cider in! I’ve been checking for weeks now.

At the store yesterday I was busy picking the best looking honeycrisp apples, and this well-dressed older woman in dark sunglasses was hovering nearby, staring at the apples I was picking.

I turned and said, “these are my favorite apples” and she said earlier that day someone at Trader Joe’s had told her that too, and that they were crisp and sweet, but that she’d never tried them. So I told her she should, and she said the prospect of eating such large apples scared her. Confused, I said she should cut it in half and share it! And then we laughed and I walked away.

Of course, this is about all the fall I’m going to get in LA. I’m going to have to drink lots of apple cider and eat some pumpkin pastries to get my fix. I guess I can handle that.
